Saying "Yes" to the Vision...

Did you just get engaged?

Your inspiration starts here...

If you’ve been noticing an increase in the sheer amount of engagement photos you’re seeing scrolling through your social media feeds over the last few months, it’s not a figment of your imagination - engagement season is a real thing!

Of course couples get engaged all year round, but 40% of all engagements happen between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day, with the majority occurring over the December holiday season.

Last year, we discovered this phenomenon to be true for ourselves, as we forayed into our very first wedding season in business. During these “engagement season” months, we saw a huge surge in phone calls; from excited (and nervous) couples, and their wedding planners alike; all in search of just the right linens for their big day. In fact their quest reminded us of our own experience planning Stacey’s wedding.

The minute you get engaged, you’ll likely notice the first question out of the mouths of your (well-intended) family and friends - have you set a date?

No need to sweat - first things first, be sure to enjoy your engagement.

While the average engagement period is about 15 months, there are no rules! Some couples will choose to stay engaged for a long period of time, while others will jump right into the planning process; choosing a date, searching for a wedding planner, scoping out the perfect venue, and setting a budget.

Whenever that time may come for you (the moment you’re ready to peel your eyes from your new ring) you can begin to think about a suitable time frame for your wedding - afterall, you can’t determine an exact date until you have secured the venue. We suggest first considering a range of dates that will work for you and your guests. You can think about the time of year you’d like to be married in, any major holidays or family events you’d like to either accomodate - or avoid - and how long you expect you’ll need to plan.

Should you say yes to a wedding planner?

When possible, we suggest at least consulting with a wedding planner to assess your options. A great wedding planner can help you plan your entire engagement period - right from the engagement party until your honeymoon.

Here are a few reasons why you might want to consider hiring a wedding planner:

  • You have a very short engagement period before the big day

  • You and your partner both work full-time jobs that will prevent you from meeting with vendors on weekdays or properly planning your big day

  • You don’t have any reliable vendor connections or anyone who can give you recommendations to save time and money

  • You're excited to be married, but just thinking about wedding planning fills you with dread - maybe you’re even wishing you eloped!

  • You are having a very short engagement

  • You can envision your wedding, but you have no idea how to make your dreams come true

  • You can not even think about what your wedding should look like, at all

At first look, this might seem like an additional cost, but because of their industry connections and experience, wedding planners can actually help you save time and money; all while planning the spectacular event of your lifetime.

We can help put you in touch with some of our local top wedding planners - just ask.

Envisioning The Big Day

Whether you’ll hire a planner or not, you’ll want to think of the fun part - dreaming up your big day. Close your eyes. Picture your dream wedding day - what do you see?

A wintery Whistler wedding might come to mind; waving goodbye to your guests as you ascend from the cathedral steps, swanked in a cosy stole; stepping hand-in-hand into a classic Buick. Or perhaps you envision a summer day along Victoria’s Oak Bay; picturesque waterfront complemented by crisp ivory table settings; all things botanical and butterflies. Or maybe, you’ll want to escape to an exotic destination, to be married under a simple gazebo as the warm sun sets over your shoulders with a few select friends and family members.

These ‘bigger picture’ visualization can help you answer the big questions; like how many people, outdoors or indoors, home or destination.

Find Inspiration In The Unexpected

Although wedding magazines and inspiration boards on Pinterest can surely spark your imagination, don’t limit yourself - an artist’s finest inspiration can often come from the unexpected.

Look to architecture, interior design, fashion, and art - what moves you and represents the love you have between your partner?

Often it’s these elements which spark the creativity of our team; ending up on tables at some of today’s finest weddings across North America (some even splashed across popular bridal publications).
