How to Design Your Fall Wedding Tablescape
More and more brides are saying “yes” to a fall wedding - and with the season’s bounty of harvest-inspired hues, it’s easy to see why! As much as we loved our summer weddings - filled to the brim with rosy pinks, peaches, and crisp whites - we’re ready to introduce a richer palette to welcome the season.
While there’s no wrong way to create your autumnal tablescape, there’s a few ways you can certainly do it with style and grace.
We’ve outlined our suggestions for a fall-inspired tablescape that will complement every beautiful autumnal wedding.
Think Beyond Traditional Fall Colours
With the mention of a “fall colour palette”, it’s easy to automatically revert to oranges, yellows, golds, olive green, and chocolate brown.
However, we’re here to dispel the myth that a fall colour palette can only be comprised of those traditional tones. In our experience, a fall colour palette can embody a wide range of hues; even cool tones, metallics, and jewel tones, as well as those traditional earthy hues.
Knowing there are options comes as a relief to many of our fall brides; afterall, a warm colour scheme simply isn’t suited for everyone’s taste - or for their Instagram themes, right?!
Some of the hottest colours for the season? Rust, terracotta, antique gold, olive, dark teal, and rose are all making an appearance at industry wedding shows - expect to see them at our fall weddings this year!
Moody Florals and Succulents
One fall wedding look we L-O-V-E? Moody, broody florals!
For today’s fall wedding, there’s nothing quite like a selection of florals that speak to the mystery, intrigue, and romance of the season. Florals have the ability to drastically change the tone of any occasion. Use them to brighten up your event OR bring some drama to it - for example, if you’re opting for a light and neutral colour scheme, some artful, deep-hued blooms will provide some edge and artistic flair. And on the contrary, if your colour scheme is already dark, you can brighten up the look by using fresh greenery and white florals. If you’re opting for colour, golden blooms coupled with bare branches are a beautiful way to pay homage to the impending chillier season.
When it comes to plants, succulents are ideal for autumn weddings thanks to their availability year-round. Lucky for us, they are a design trend that’s sure to stay for the foreseeable future, too.
Chic Idea: for a rustic floral arrangement option, paint Mason jars in your favourite neutral shade, and arrange your blooms and succulents to be displayed in these.
Use Seasonal Accents (Sparingly)
There is undoubtedly something very nourishing about Fall; the season is all about hearth, home and great Mother Nature. Whether you’re celebrating the harvests of the season sipping hot apple cider in front of a fire, or gathering fresh, seasonal vegetables at the market or in a farmer’s patch; there’s this undeniable feeling of coming home this time of year. Invoke these feelings of warmth and abundance by nodding to these autumn activities by adding seasonal accents to your decor. Consider using seasonal fruits, twigs, dried berries, canvas, wheat, gourds, or leaves as part of your centrepiece or tablescape design.
One word of caution - if you choose to use gourds and pumpkins, be certain to use them sparingly; as the line between harvest-inspired and Halloween can sometimes be thin! Try layering them with greenery like eucalyptus and ferns for a “lighter” look and feel. Plain Branches
Plain branches reflect the changing of seasons and falling leaves outdoors, providing a wonderful blank canvas to dress up. Adorn them elegantly with candles, crystals, or a few accent blooms while letting their natural beauty shine through.
As a centrepiece, consider placing skinny tree branches with string lights in a glass vase - for an elegant yet organic look, perfect for those West Coast weddings.
Nothing speaks to Autumn’s warmth more than flickering candlelight over a beautiful meal!
Exactly how you choose to incorporate candlelight into your wedding tablescape is up to you - for a wedding with bohemian flair, line your table with large, dramatic candlesticks of varying heights. For a modern, clean aesthetic, try simple floating votives in water amidst flower petals (white is always a classic!).
Select Your Linens and Napkins Carefully
While we love a bit of ‘rustic charm’, it can be easy to overdo it on the seasonal accents - like burlap, wheat, wood, seasonal veggies, acorns, pinecones, cranberries and leaves and the like. A little goes a long way!
To bring sophistication to your fall wedding tablescape, there’s nothing quite like stylish, high-quality fine linens and napkins.
After all, these provide the backdrop to your table setting, and the napkins will be the one item that guests touch and place on their laps.
